Four area teachers will travel to Turkey next month to learn about Turkish culture and ways to incorporate the new experience into their classrooms and school curriculums.

The teachers traveling July 28 are Marissa Kleinhans, Baltic High School, Karen Thaler, Michelson Middle School in Brookings, Gary Pederson, Patrick Henry Middle school in Sioux Falls, and Sally Rice, Edison Middle School in Sioux Falls.

They will visit Turkish Schools, historic relics and cultural traditions in light of the educator’s own subject area. The group will return Aug. 6.

The four teachers were chosen from applicants attending a one-day workshop about Turkey organized by the South Dakota Council on World Affairs. This is the second year the council has received funding from the Turkish Cultural Foundation to support the teachers’ workshop and travel.
