TCF sponsored Turkish floral display at Art Blooms: All Mapped Out With Flowers at the Walters Museum in Baltimore

The Women's Committee of the Walters Art Museum hosted an international celebration where 30 regional garden clubs presented flower arrangements on April 3-6, 2008.

In addition to the uniquely interpreted paintings and sculptures on view in the galleries surrounding the palazzo, participating countries were represented through the art of floral arranging. The Turkish Cultural Foundation, sponsored a floral display  to represent Turkey at the event. Prof. Dr. Nurhan Atasoy, author of “A Garden for the Sultan: Gardens and Flowers in the Ottoman Culture” provided historical floral images to the volunteers who created the Turkish arrangement.
Turkey’s floral arrangement consisted of mostly tulips especially rarely-found black tulips, as well as of carnations, magnolia, hyacinth.
The event accompanied an exhibition about Maps, where two maps on Istanbul and Cairo by the renowned Ottoman cartographer and explorer Piri Reis were prominently featured. 


The wife of the Turkish Ambassador to the United States, Mrs.Gülgün Sensoy,  who is also a former Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture of Turkey, political counselor of the Embassy Mrs.Kivilcim Kilic, Honorary Consul General of Turkey to Baltimore Mr. Cenap Kirat and his wife, as well TCF Executive Director Guler Koknar participated in the opening event.

TCF completed film project of Karagoz and Hacivat shadow theater

A project under the Foundation′s cultural preservation mission, the filming and post-production of an archival quality recording of 20 traditional playsof the Karagoz and Hacivat theater has been completed. The plays wereperformed by renowned Karagoz puppeteer artist Metin Ozlen under the direction ofaward-winningdirector Aytekin Cakmakci. TheDVD collection is now available.

TCF Sponsored Artists' Exhibit at the Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art - SOFA Chicago and SOFA New York

The Turkish Cultural Foundation participated in the 2008 Chicago and New York SOFA expositions , the premier show on sculpture objects and functional art.

TCF Cultural Lecture Series in USA

Under a national program, the Turkish Foundation has organized three symposia on Turkish art and culture. The first was organized in cooperation with the Detroit Institute of Arts on "The Art and Influence of the Turkish Carpet," the second iwith the Boston Museum of Fine Arts on the "Arts of Sufism" to accompany a related exhibition at this museum and the third at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada to feature presentations on the great Turkish philosopher Fuzuli and the Artistic Exchange between the Ottomans and Europe. Turkish Music Portal is available in four languages online

In January 2006, the Turkish Cultural Foundation inaugurated the first educational site dedicated to Turkish music. Featuring information on the history, genres, instruments, performers etc. of Turkish music through the ages, Turkish Music Portal was created by the Foundation in cooperation with a team of Turkish music experts, led by Dr.Melih Duygulu. The site, available in Turkish, English, German and French.

TCF completed website on all things related to Turkish cuisine culture

The Turkish Cultural Foundation has completed research for a new website on all things related to Turkish cuisine culture. The website, prepared by a team of Turkish cuisine experts under the coordination of Dr.Melih Duygulu, was inaugurated at the end of 2007 and features information on regional Turkish cuisines, cuisines of neighboring regions and their interactions with Turkish cuisine, as well as information on historical resources on Turkish cuisine. This site is available in Turkish and English.

Grant awarded to University of Pennsylvania Museum for visit by Turkish museum administrator

To support exchanges between American and Turkish museums, the Turkish Cultural Foundation awarded a grant to the UPENN Museum for a visit by a museum administrator/educator from the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, Turkey.

First Turkish Musical on Broadway

The Turkish Cultural Foundation became the premier sponsor of the first Turkish musical performed on Broadway. "Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyasi," one of the best known and charming Turkish musicals has been performed on more than 600 stages worldwide for 29 years. The New York premiere was performed by Turkish and Turkish American professional and amateur artists on June 13 at the Beacon Theater, under the organization of the Turkish American Art Society of New York, a non profit organization promoting Turkish theater to American audiences.
