Teachers Getting Ready to Leave for TCF Study Tour

The first group of 30 American middle and high school teachers will travel to Turkey on June 19 to embark on their 14-day TCF Teacher Study Tour, sponsored and organized by TCF in cooperation with the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) and WACA chapters. The second group of 27 teachers will depart for their tour on July 3. Watch the trailer of a documentary on the TCF Teacher Study Tours.


TCF featured in TURKKEY and Hali Magazines

TCF was featured in the June issue of Turkkey Magazine. The TURKKEY interview, “Turkish Cultural Foundation Promotes Turkey to the World,” can be read online. TCF was also featured in an article titled Silks for a Sultan published in the Spring issue of Hali Magazine.


TCF Istanbul Lectures

The TCF Istanbul Lecture Program hosted two lectures by Dr. Recep Karadag, TCF Consultant and Head of TCF Natural Dye Research and Development Laboratory - DATU, in June, on the topic of "Dye Analysis and Reproduction of 16th Century Ottoman Brocades". The Istanbul Lecture program and videos of past lectures can be viewed online at the TCF website.


TCF Istanbul Office Hosts American Delegations

On May 16, the TCF Istanbul office hosted 6 students and two faculty members from Community College of Philadelphia who were visiting Turkey on a week-long study tour. The students received a briefing on Turkish art and culture by Dr.Nurhan Atasoy, TCF Senior Scholar in Residence. Students and staff writers of the Yale Globalist, a student magazine of Yale University, visiting Turkey on their annual international reporting trip enjoyed a presentation on TCF’s Cultural Heritage Project “Turkish Shadow Theater: Karagoz.” Both groups visited Turkey with funding from a study tour grant by the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA).

A TCA congressional delegation visited the TCF Istanbul office and received a presentation on Foundation’s programs and cultural portals on May 29.

Among the visiting student delegations was a group of 17 students from the Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan, who visited Turkey on a photography course and study tour supported by a major grant from TCF. The group received a lecture on May 30 by Dr. Nurhan Atasoy on the Photography Albums of Sultan Abdulhamid II. 

Supported by a major grant from TCF, 14 students Woodbury University visited the TCF Istanbul office, attending Dr. Recep Karadag’s lecture on the “Analysis of 16th Century Ottoman Silk Brocades and their Reproductions” on June 6 and Prof. Dr. Nurhan Atasoy’s lecture on "Life in Istanbul in 1582 (video)".


TCF Supports Eyup Music Foundation's Tribute Concert

Sponsored by TCF, the Eyup Music Foundation’s tribute concert titled “Three Istanbulite Composers: Osman Nihat Akin, Selahattin Icli and Avni Anil” took place at the Istanbul Technical University on May 12. The concert was attended by more than 500 people.


TCF Sponsors 9th Annual Chicago Turkish Festival

A TCF major grant was awarded to the Turkish American Cultural Alliance of Chicago in support of the 9th Annual Chicago Turkish Festival. The Festival took place on May 22-25, 2011 at the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago and attracted tens of thousands of participants.
